Where solar works and where it does not

A solar strand needs direct sun on the panel for most of the afternoon. Under a deep porch roof, on a north wall, or after a week of gray skies, it will glow dim or not at all.

The strand itself can run into the shade. Only the panel needs the sun.

  • Stake the panel facing south, clear of branches.
  • Switch the strand on for its first full day of charge.
  • Clean the panel when the lights start to fade early.
