What Minetom makes

We started Minetom in 2014 with fairy lights on thin copper wire, the kind you wind around a headboard or drop into a glass jar. The range grew the way a year does. Halloween asked for orange and purple, Christmas for C9 bulbs on the roofline, July for red, white and blue, and summer evenings for globe lights over the patio.

Today there are 225 designs in the range and most of them are lights. You choose each one on its own page by color, length and power: plug-in, USB, batteries or a small solar panel.

Some of what we make is not light at all. There are wreaths that come with the lights already woven in, knit stockings with a tag for each name, holders that sit on the mantel without a nail, and a line of soft everyday tops. They sit in their own shops, so the lights stay easy to find.

Start from the spot you want to light, not the name of the bulb.

Power first, then color

The question that decides most choices is where the plug goes. A plug-in strand is the brightest and never runs flat. A battery strand goes anywhere, from a wreath on the door to a centerpiece. A solar strand charges in the day and needs no cord at all, and it will not glow as long after a gray afternoon.

Once the power is settled, color comes easy. Warm white looks like old incandescent bulbs. Pure white is cooler and crisp on snow. Multicolor is the classic tree. Our color-changing strands switch between them with a remote.

If you are unsure, start with warm white on green wire. It suits a tree, a mantel and a porch rail, and it looks right in October as well as in December.

Décor, bulbs and the small parts

Measure once, buy the right number

Most roofline mistakes come from buying strands before measuring. Walk the gutter with a tape, add the drop down to the outlet, and let the strand planner do the division. Connectable Minetom strands join end to end, so the answer is always a whole number of strands.

Clips matter as much as bulbs. A C9 strand hung with universal clips sits straight along the gutter, and it comes down in January without leaving marks.

Test every strand on the lawn before you climb. A dead bulb is a two-minute fix on the grass and a much longer one on a ladder in the cold.

Beautiful, but a bit fragile?

Great lighting and options, like timers. After periodic uses, it eventually stopped working. I’d say it’s probably relatively fragile and is great for maybe small events, but not for long term everyday use like setting up in a bedroom? Just be careful if you decide to purchase

The Kids are Jealous

I got these for my bedroom so I didn’t have such a harsh light on overhead. I had tried other LED lights in the past and these are by far the favorite! It’s so easy to use and install. We rent from family so I needed something that would be easy to remove if need be. It doesn’t have that sticky backing I hate. You can easily hang these with a few command strips.

How we test a strand

Every new strand gets switched on at home before it joins the range: on a porch rail, on a tree, around a window. We look at it at dusk, when the colors show most. If warm white reads orange, or the twinkle looks like a fault, the strand goes back for another try.

We write what a light will not do on its page as well. A solar strand under a deep porch roof stays dim. A battery curtain eats batteries if you leave it on all night. You should know that before you buy, not after.
