The mini light is the one on most American trees: a small bulb every two inches, 100 to a strand. Minetom makes 19 designs of it, in clear incandescent and LED, on green wire for the tree and white wire for white walls and rails.

Incandescent minis give the old warm glow and cost less up front. LED minis run cool to the touch and use a small part of the power.

Wire color matters more than people expect. Green wire disappears into a tree. White wire disappears on a white rail or a white wall.

  • Tree: green wire, about 100 lights per foot of tree height.
  • Porch rail: white wire if the rail is white.
  • Mixed strands: stay with one type, bulbs of the two kinds glow differently.
